ITM Department of Human Resource Virtual Voyagers: Industrial Visit
"Today, as our physical spaces shrink, our virtual spaces are expanding." The turbulent times of Covid 19 Pandemic have paved the way to innovation and following this the HR Department of ITM Business School organized its very first Virtual Industrial Visit under the nomenclature-Virtual Voyagers for the HR students of Batch 2019-21 and 2020-22 to Wilton Weavers, Kerala on 24th September 2020. The virtual tour was conducted by Ms. Malini Gautham, CEO; Mr. Tony, HR Head and Mr. Vinod, QMS Manager. It was a complete real time tour of Wilton Weavers in which their staff showed the manufacturing process from start to end.
Wilton Weavers is a Kerala based Carpet Manufacturing company specialized in Aviation Carpets and Fine wool broadloom. The company is one of the kinds in India that specializes in the area of aerospace. The vision of the company is to benchmark on Wilton woven products. The company started its journey in the year 1917 and continues to maintain its monopoly in the market.
Learnings and Takeaways:
- Various operation processes relating to the manufacturing of carpets which includes bobbin winding, beaming process and latex mixing.
- HR practices in the company like: Employee Health and Safety Measures-Wilton has multiple safety signboards such as ladder safety rules, fire extinguisher charts etc. Employee Engagement: Wilton believes in Give and then take relationships, organizing company tours, having Onam and birthday celebrations and also play area for employees.
Wilton Weavers follows a B2B business process and believes in continuous innovation. They follow a differentiation strategy for its marketing and have a lean or flat organizational structure that results in a no-trade or no-labour union condition in the company.
